Executive Intelligence zeros in on leadership smarts and notes that in all lists compiled by leadership experts, head hunters, and boards of directors the one and only trait that appears in all is intelligence.

Executive Intelligence zeros in on leadership smarts and notes that in all lists compiled by leadership experts, head hunters, and boards of directors the one and only trait that appears in all is intelligence. Obvious? No, because typically leadership savvy regularly trumps smarts. That is unfortunate because it obscures the cultivation and development of how leaders think, speculate, conceive, and problem solve their own firms and the way they lead. Executive intelligence like emotional intelligence acts like an advanced scout sizing up situations, identifying mine fields, creating contingencies, developing last minute ways out, and then acting like the artful dodger. In the process, the leader develops a special kind of intelligence tied to and defining the kind if leader he or she is; and that ultimately generates the leader's edge and comparative advantage.

Seminar paper from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,3, Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, language: English, abstract: Leadership is not a "one size fits all" thing. Often, leaders must adapt their style to fit a situation or a specific group. Therefore, it is useful to gain a thorough understanding of the cutting-edge leadership styles. Cutting edge leadership styles are advancements of other leadership style to meet the requirements of a business which becomes more and more speeded up. Four different styles will be analyzed: The situational, charismatic, visionary and supportive leadership style. The situational one focuses on the maturity level of the follower and the leader can decide between four approaches which fit the most to the maturity level. The charismatic leadership style is more or less a nature given talent which cannot be trained. The leader needs to have the talent to deal with people in a very special way to motivate them, especially in critical situations. By practicing the supportive leadership style the leader’s behavior expresses concern for the followers and their individual needs and each follower is considered individually. The visionary leadership style is supposed to transmit energy to the employees by giving them a sense of hope and confidence in achievin a certain vision. But all in all there is no right or wrong leadership style and it needs to fit to the follower, the situation as well as to the leader. Also a good leader varies with many different leadership styles because every situation has its peculiarities and needs handled always differently.

Many books describe elements of church leadership- what it is and how to do it- but very few focus on the process of personal transformation that is central to being able to lead well. The Leader's Journey provides a blueprint and the practical tools needed to transform the lives of pastors and congregational lay leaders so that they can become truly effective leaders. Blending the best of sound psychological research, solid Biblical principles, and proven congregational experiences- authors Jim Herrington, Robert Creech, and Trisha Taylor offer step-by-step guidance for engaging in the personal transformation journey as part of effective congregational leadership. To lead well, pastors must first focus on managing themselves rather than managing others and learn to think in a different way about how people in living systems affect each other. As pastors learn to manage their own anxiety, they can handle themselves more calmly and lead in the midst of anxious congregations. The Leader's Journey also examines the life of Jesus and reflects on the living systems of which He was a part, observing His ability to know and do the right thing despite enormous pressure to do otherwise. To emulate His life, the authors encourage leaders to pursue a more intimate relationship with God so that they will be able to keep their lives in balance when outside influences and pressures tend to overtake us. The concepts presented in this useful volume have been successfully implemented in large and small congregations all over the world through The Leader's Edge seminars. Throughout The Leader's Journey, Herrington, Creech, and Taylor share their own stories of transformation and those of other pastors and lay leaders, and each chapter contains reflective questions for self-assessment that will engage you in your transformational journey.
