"This book offers the first comprehensive critical account of minimal writing-works of text art, visual literature and poetry that are generally shorter than a sentence. Minimal writing can be beguilingly simple on the surface, but it can also present extreme interpretive challenges. Post-1960s visual art is strongly characterized by the "linguistic turn," and artists such as Lawrence Weiner, Carl Andre, Dan Graham, Joseph Kosuth, Lucy Lippard and Jenny Holzer built highly visible careers from text-based art. Stephens argues that minimal poets working during this same period produced work of equal complexity and power, and shows how minimal writing has enjoyed a recent resurgence among writers working with emergent publication platforms, as well as among those working with computer code. The rise of minimalism in the 1960s can also be understood in relation to new developments in media. Whereas many 60s pop artists and New York School poets gleefully included the detritus of mass culture in their work, minimal and conceptual artists and writers stripped language down to its most basic components. Presented is a pre-history of minimal writing beginning with modernism and continuing through concrete poetry in the 1950s, but the bulk of the book centers on a careful media-archival account of post-1965 poetry and text art"--

If you've ever wished you could clear out your clutter, simplify your space, and take back your life, Kathi Lipp's new book has just the solutions you need. Building off the success of her The Get Yourself Organized Project, this book will provide even more ideas for getting your life and your stuff under control. Do any of these descriptions apply to you? You bought a box of cereal at the store, and then discovered you have several boxes at home that are already past the "best by" date. You bought a book and put it on your nightstand (right on top of ten others you've bought recently), but you have yet to open it. You keep hundreds of DVDs around even though you watch everything online now and aren't really sure where the remote for the DVD player is. You spend valuable time moving your piles around the house, but you can never find that piece of paper when you need it. Your house doesn't make you happy when you step into it. As you try out the many easy, doable solutions that helped Kathi win her battle with clutter, you'll begin to understand why you hold on to the things you do, eliminate what's crowding out real life, and make room for the life of true abundance God wants for you.

Remarkable scientific research, mapping the human genome, reveals how similar we all are to each other. Only a tiny fraction of difference separates us one from another. Each of us says "Hello" to our individual experience here on earth, and each of us will ultimately and assuredly say "Goodbye." Between those landmark events in our lives, there are all kinds and types of "Hellos" and "Goodbyes," some happy; some sad; some funny-and all part of the amazing school called life. This book awakens us to both the glitter, and sometimes the gloom, that life presents on an almost daily basis. It awakens a realization that life is truly important and meaningful, and that each day is a gift to be opened and treasured.

The market for self-improvement books may never be boring, but it is often littered with false hope. A better sex life? Lose weight in ten days by eating only Twinkies? Make more money than you’ve ever dreamed from the comfort of your couch? These are promises left unfulfilled because they do not address the core of the problems they try to solve: our society is destructively complex and dependent on consumerism. Fixing the problems of tomorrow (and yesterday) starts today. We have the ability to revitalize our health by saving our environment—cleaning the air and water, stabilizing the climate, refocusing our consumption with a plan for achieving sustainability. Finding out how to maintain our lives and relate to others are the first steps in making ourselves self-sufficient and peaceful. But we still have a very long way to go. What if, on the basis of one belief, we could start to rectify the larger problems of society? Solve global warming? Childhood obesity? Famine, drought, and poverty? What if one book could teach us how to gain more time, more energy, more money, more happiness, and better health? Sounds too good to be true? Simplicity is that cure-all, and The Simplicity Connection will teach us how to get back on a path of physical, emotional and mental well-being. This practical and comprehensive guide will help us rethink how we treat our bodies, our spirits, and our environment. It will show how even our smallest actions can lead to a simpler, better life.
